Album: 'Z' - MMJ. Is this their finest or do you go with It Still Moves? Higher TALL for me is probably 'It Still Moves' but 'Z' cannot be far behind. Either way, 'Z' is in heavy rotation right now.
They really know how to close a record too:
It Still Moves - Just One Thing, Steam Engine, One in the Same
Z - Lay Low, Knot Comes Loose, and Dondante
Song: 'Salt in the Wound' - Delta Spirit
'It Still Moves' has a higher TALL for me as well. Love both these albums. How about how they open them as well? Which is the better album opener Mahgeeta or Wordless Chorus?
ReplyDeletemagheeta easiy...I actually like tennessee fire btter than both
ReplyDeleteHeavy question...
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I agree with the Plumber. Magheeta by a country mile.
I love Z, first MMJ album I ever listened to upon DL's advice. Has the weirdest/funniest lyric in there on "Into The Woods", "baby in a blender (baby crying in the background)"
After listening to them so much now, I like their older albums. At Dawn is easily my favorite with Bermuda Highway my favorite MMJ song.
I remember when you sent me a link to "The Bear" right after it was released, and your email said "This isn't bad." And then I gave you shit for hedging your opinion because it was obviously fucking awesome.
ReplyDeleteI remember getting the bear from laney too...that is why he gets co-sponsorship of MMJ with the sprinkla.
ReplyDeleteIt Still Moves over Z for me
Can't wait for the new album
That was all right after Q and I saw them at Bonnaroo for the first time. They were literally the first band playing for the weekend, noon on Friday, so we were all, "My morning jacket? What the hell, sure let's check them out." And they floored me.
ReplyDeleteI can't even carry Colls bags for new-band finds, but MMJ was definitely my best.
I gotta go with Magheeta on DL's question for its nostalgic value for me but Wordless Chorus is one of the coolest album openers ever (not to mention how cool it is as a live show opener, nothing is better than when James rolls out with the lantern and the cape on).
